Hi folks! Scott here. I wanted to share this exciting email I got tonight from my dear friend, Bill Blanchard! Bill was a film professor who worked for my Dad at Lansing Community College. I hope you'll enjoy this story- it's all about Michigan talent-- on the big stage!
(Bill's email)
Hi Everybody,
OK. I've got to brag. One of my former students, Bob Murawski, won an Academy Award Sunday night for film editing. He and his wife Chris Innis netted the Editing Oscar for "The Hurt Locker." After the acceptance speeches backstage, there was a "Thank You Cam" where recipients got to extend their speeches and thank people they didn't have time to thank on the broadcast. And Bob mentioned my name as his "great film teacher."
You must watch a minute and a half to see that part. I think you can see the video at this link. You will need to copy and paste it into your web browser.

If that does not work, go to Oscars.com, scroll down and click Thank You Cam in the center of the page, then scroll down the next screen below the first video and find Film Editing in the third row of thumbnails.
There's more information about Bob at the imdb.com website: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0613657
Bob edited all the Spiderman films, including the new one still in production. When I took the last student group to Los Angeles in 2001, he was working on the first Spiderman. He invited us all to his editing rooms at Sony Pictures and put on a detailed demonstration of how they went from the storyboard concepts through a video-game quality animation to shooting live action elements and combining that film with the final computer effects.
And he arranged for Sam Raimi to come in and meet with the students. Raimi spent at least half an hour with the group and spoke directly with each student. Then we toured one of the sets.

On behalf of all us here in the Michigan Film industry, way to go Bob and Innis!
